1. Is it true that United Communities is going to mow our lawns?
We are going to mow all lawns, other than fenced in back yards. We’ll publish a lawn mowing schedule so you’ll know in advance and we do ask that you pick up any items in your yard prior to the scheduled date. In addition to mowing, we’re going to trim, edge and remove crack grass as needed. Also, United Communities will do 2 fall leaf clean ups for our residents.
2. What if I want to mow my own lawn?
We realize that some families may want to continue mowing their own lawns. If your family is one of these, please contact our Leasing / Management Office at 723-4290. We’re working on a system now so that these lawns can be easily identified by our mowing crews.
3. When will I have to start paying for my utilities?
No one will start paying for utilities until their home is metered and historical consumption data is gathered for a 24 month period. We will send you “mock bills” well in advance of the time that you will start paying for your own utilities so you will be fully aware of the costs. And don’t forget, we are going to refund to you a utility allowance (110% of the cost for the average consumption for your unit type based on the data we gathered) to offset the cost to you. If you practice energy conservation, you probably will never have to pay out of pocket --- and you may even have money left over after paying our bills, which you will get to keep. Right now, we don’t believe any families will pay for utilities until late 2009 or early 2010.
4. Will there be pet restrictions when we privatize?
Originally, United Communities restricted dogs to less than 100 lbs. Due to feedback from residents, that restriction has been lifted. However, there are some restricted breeds – rottweillers, doberman pinschers, and pit bulls are not allowed. All current pets are grandfathered.
5. What housing areas will be demolished first?
Current plans call for demolition first in the 2700 and 2800 areas of FCE. However, the first phase of construction will start in areas that are already vacant such as Starlifter Trailer Court.
6. How much notice will I have prior to moving due to demolition?
United Communities intends to publicize anticipated move dates approximately a year prior. But, we ask our families to keep in mind that set backs may occur which could delay moves.
7. Is there a size restriction on aquariums?
We’ve re-evaluated our initial restriction on aquariums over 10 gallons due to feedback from our families. Now, aquariums up to 50 gallons are allowed. If you would like an aquarium larger than 50 gals, please get approval from United Communities first.
8. After privatization, can I have relatives stay with me for an extended period of time?
No, these rules remain the same as they are in Military Family Housing now. This housing is classified as single family homes. Paragraphs 9 and 13 of our Military Resident Lease explain our policy on social visitors. The Occupancy Addendum to our Military Resident Lease explains who we consider to be a part of your family. Anyone staying with you that is not listed, may visit for 30 days or less if they reside outside our commuting area (defined as within 60 minute drive) or 2 days if they reside within our commuting area. If your guests would like to stay longer, please notify United Communities in writing for our approval.
